EXAMINATION LATEST NEWS & TIMELINE
Hearing sessions will commence at 10am on Tuesday 13th May 2025 within the Council Chamber of Cannock Chase District Council Civic Centre, Beecroft Road, Cannock, Staffordshire, WS11 1BG. The Hearings are to take place during the weeks of 12th May, 2nd June and 7th July 2025.

26th April 2025 - Further Examination documents published comprising of:
EXAM 10 - Housing Shortfall Statement of Common Ground updated to included additional signatures.
EXAM 10A - Telford & Wrekin Position Statement regarding Statement of Common Ground.
EXAM 15 - Sustainability Appraisal Report - Issues and Scope 2018.
EXAM 16 - Sustainability Appraisal Report - Issues and Options 2019.
EXAM 17 - Sustainability Appraisal Report - Preferred Options 2021.

23rd April 2025 - EXAM 11D - Hearings Programme V2 published. Version 2 of the Programme has been published following consideration of requests to participate in the hearing sessions. In addition to the identification of participants, there is one structural change to the Programme with Matter 12 now programmed to take place during the afternoon of the 9th July rather than the 10th as the V1 Programme suggested.​​
4th April 2025 - Following the deadline for comments on the Guidance Note and Matters, Issues and Questions the Inspector has submitted a Note to the Council (EXAM 14) providing feedback and has made necessary amendments to the Guidance Note and Matters, Issues and Questions.​
28th March 2025 - EXAM 13 - Statement of Common Ground between CCDC, Staffordshire County Council & National Highways published.​
27th March 2025 - EXAM 12 - Regulation 24 Notice of Hearing Sessions published.​
26th March 2025 - The Inspector has produced a Guidance Note, Matters, Issues & Questions and a Draft Hearings Schedule. The documents have been provided to the Council alongside a covering letter.​
7 March 2025 - Two Statements of Common Ground published, comprising of:
EXAM 9 - Statement of Common Ground between CCDC and Historic England
6 February 2025 - Consequential Updates to documents related to the Regulation 19 Consultation have been made following the additional capture of responses received from (AO119) Birmingham City Council, (AO120) Horizon Homes, (AO121) Knott, (AO122) National Highways, (AO123 Stratford-on Avon District Council and (AO124) Knowo. The updated documents are SD7, SD12, SD13 & SD14 in the updated documents list.​
5 February 2025 - EXAM 8 - Authority Monitoring Report 2023 - 2024 published.​
29 January 2025 - EXAM 7 - Local Authorities & Natural England Statement of Common Ground on Air Quality published.​

18 December 2024 - Planning Inspector; A McCormack BSc(Hons) MRTPI appointed to hold an independent examination of the Cannock Chase Local Plan.
29 November 2024 - Cannock Chase District local Plan submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for Examination.

THE INSPECTOR
Planning Inspector A McCormack BSc(Hons) MRTPI has been appointed to undertake independent examinations into the soundness and legal compliance of the Cannock Chase District Local Plan.
​
The Inspector's task will be to consider the soundness and legal compliance of the submitted Plan, based on the criteria set out in paragraph 35 of the National Planning Policy Framework 2023 (the Framework) and associated regulations., namely the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the Localism Act 2011 and the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012.

The Inspector will take into account the representations submitted upon the Regulation 19 Draft Plan as far as they relate to soundness and legal compliance considerations. A number of informal debates will take place on the principal matters identified by the Inspector these are termed Hearing Sessions.

At the end of the Examination, the Inspector will prepare a report to the Local Planning Authority with precise recommendations, these recommendations may include modifications to the Plan, if such a request is made by the Council.

My role is to act as the point contact for any person who has an interest in the Examination and as a liaison between the Inspector, Local Planning Authority and Representors. ​I am an independent Officer of the Examination and work on behalf of the Inspector to organise and manage the administrative and procedural elements of the Examination process. ​Any matters that anyone wishes to raise with the Inspector should be submitted to me in the first instance.

GUIDANCE NOTES
Guidance Notes have been prepared by the Inspector to establish the arrangements for the process. Procedural Guidance for Local Plans has also been produced by the Planning Inspectorate, together with a short guide aimed at those participating in a local plan examination for the first time.
